About us

We unlock the power of science for every body.

Our Belief

Each of us has a unique biology.

Our Vision

Everyone has the right to understand their body.

Our Founders

That’s why we started ZOE – to make this vision a reality for everyone.

Tim Spector

Professor of Genetic Epidemiology at King’s College London, director of the Twins UK study and one of the world’s leading researchers. Author of 'The Diet Myth', focusing on nutrition and the microbiome.

Jonathan Wolf

Previously Chief Product Officer for machine learning company Criteo, helping take the business in 7 years from start-up to NASDAQ IPO, 2,000 employees and over $1Bn revenue. Jonathan studied physics at Oxford University.

George Hadjigeorgiou

Previously CEO of HouseTrip (acquired by TripAdvisor) and co-founder of efood (acquired by Delivery Hero), one of the leading food delivery platforms in Europe. George studied Mechanical Engineering at Tufts & MIT.

Our Story

ZOE means life in Greek and we’re committed to helping people live to their fullest. We are a health science company founded by Tim, Jonathan and George (George is the Greek!). We are running the largest in-depth nutrition study in the world, and the largest COVID science project with over 4m participants.

We believe that nothing is more important than the food we eat. Our journey started 25 years ago, when Tim started his study of 13,000 twins, looking at genes, gut microbes and lifestyle. He was surprised to discover that even identical twins, who share all their genes, have very different responses to the same foods. So there is no one right way to eat - the key lies in understanding your own biology.

ZOE was born three years ago when Tim joined forces with Jonathan and George, whose backgrounds are in artificial intelligence and consumer apps, together with nutrition researchers from leading academic institutions including Massachusetts General Hospital, King’s College London, Stanford Medicine, & Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health.

ZOE was designed to be something new. Our bet was that new technologies could enable scientific research at an unprecedented scale, allowing us to understand individual responses in the real world. Our approach combines large-scale human studies with machine learning technology, microbiome sequencing and collaboration with leading scientists around the world - and our results continuously improve as our scientific studies expand. We have already published multiple peer reviewed papers in some of the most important scientific journals such as Nature Medicine.

All three of us - Tim, George and Jonathan - have made significant changes to the way we eat, as a result of our research. We are excited to be able to make this cutting edge research available publicly to anyone who wants to join ZOE on this journey.
